Nikka Coffey Malt

Nikka Coffey Malt is produced exclusively from malted barley, distilled using a Coffey still, typically reserved for grain whiskies. This unconventional method gives the distillate a creamy texture and an aromatic richness uncommon for malt whisky. Distilled at Miyagikyo, it combines the expressive qualities of a single malt with the structural imprint of column distillation, resulting in a hybrid profile. The nose opens with hazelnut, almond paste, pear compote and stone fruits. On the palate, the texture is generous, offering honey, nougat, toasted oak and a hint of liquorice. A persistent roundness is underpinned by cocoa, dried fruits and citrus peel. The finish is broad, highlighting soft spices and nutty notes. This whisky represents an alternative reading of Japanese malt, showcasing the potential of mixed distillation techniques.
