Nikka Taketsuru

Taketsuru Pure Malt is a blend of single malts from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. It pays tribute to Masataka Taketsuru, a founding figure of Japanese whisky. The structure reflects a contrast of styles: Miyagikyo’s aromatic richness with Yoichi’s peaty and mineral depth. The nose displays fresh citrus notes, notably orange and pear, evolving towards subtle vegetal tones, a hint of peat and a gentle bitterness reminiscent of grapefruit zest. The palate is round and refined, offering cereal flavours combined with mild spices such as cardamom, followed by candied fruit. A persistent tension lends verticality to the overall profile. The finish continues this dynamic with discreet peat, dark chocolate and a balanced structure. This whisky exemplifies Nikka’s malt-blending approach, characterised by measured complexity and clear aromatic definition.
