Trade Mark X

James Eadie

Trade Mark X is an almost unique case in the whisky world: a facsimile—both in bottle and contents—of a blend originally sold in the 19th century. James Eadie, then a brewer, created his own blend from 16 single malts, bottled under his own label (Trade Mark in English): “X”. It was sold across the many pubs he owned throughout Scotland. His great-great-grandson, Rupert Patrick, rediscovered original bottles along with his ancestor’s blending ledger and recreated a whisky as faithful as possible to the original. The result is a blend of remarkable quality: a floral and lively nose, a creamy, vanilla-rich palate, and a delicate finish marked by subtle smoky and maritime notes. A whisky far superior to many of today’s celebrated blends.

The House

The independent bottling house James Eadie stands out for its drastic selection of distillates and ageing, to ensure that the consumer enjoys flawless malts. Behind the brand is a seasoned and passionate entrepreneur, Rupert Patrick, who has worked for many years in the whisky industry, notably at Diageo and Beam Suntory. It is also a family affair, as Rupert is a direct descendant of James Eadie, whose brand he bought while re-launching a famous 19th century blended scotch: Trade Mark X. His thorough work as a historian and selector naturally led him to extend his range, which now includes small batches and single casks from the greatest Scottish distilleries, with particularly accomplished ageing and finishing.
