Highlands

A name like a promise: the Highlands. Before you went there, you imagined everything. Legendary monsters that you loved to shiver at as a child: the Loch Ness monster, the beast of the Black Isle, the Kelpies, the spectres of Blackness... Wild, unknown lands, populated by gruff beings with indecipherable accents. And rivers of whisky.

On the plane to Inverness, half asleep, you could already see yourself at the wheel of an old DB5, roaming the hills in search of Skyfall Manor, or following in the footsteps of the smugglers and clandestine distillers hunted down by the excise men across the moors.

But none of your fantasies were true. And when your eyes widened, you had to admit: it was even better. A land of mystery perhaps, but above all a land of beauty with a thousand landscapes, lush or lunar, and a thousand rivers - water, very pure, from which whisky is made. People with thick souls, ready to welcome you for a song in the local pub, or for life with their families. And these whiskies... rough and salty like the cliffs of the West, or warm and intimate like an open fire, sometimes with a hint of peat.

The memories of your journey alone are enough to make your head spin. This unspoilt land, where so many myths were born and so many distilleries flourished, has no equal on earth, let alone in your heart. Which, like Robert Burns', is in the Highlands.
