Auchroisk 10 year old
Flora & Fauna
Rather austere at first, this single malt aged in Bourbon casks reveals itself fresh and light with good aeration. The spicy character and pronounced notes of dried fruits from the "new make" are easily recognizable. Its cereal and fresh fruit notes wrapped in a touch of caramel make it a single malt for all occasions.A must-have for Scotch whisky connoisseurs, the so-called "Flora & Fauna" range is little known to the general public. Launched in the 1990s by United Distillers & Vintners, this series was originally intended to showcase distilleries that did not bottle under their own name. There were also non-reduced versions until the 2000s. The complete collection comprises 26 references, released over time, some of which are now discontinued and have become true collectors' items. The paternity of the name "Flora & Fauna" in reference to the animals and plants depicted on the various labels is attributed to the whisky writer and critic Michael Jackson.

Many amateurs, even connoisseurs, have never heard of Auchroisk. Indeed, the purpose of this rather recent distillery (1972) was to supply one of the major Diageo blends. Its unpronounceable name seems as austere as its personality. However, behind its particularly malty flavour and dried fruit notes, this whisky boasts a rarely rivalled delicacy. The distillery was built in 1974 by Justerini & Brooks, which belongs to the Diageo group. Located between the towns of Dufftown and Rothes, its site was selected for its proximity to a fresh water spring, Dories Well. The neighbouring distilleries are Strathmill and Strathisla to the north and Glen Spey and Glen Keith to the south. The first bottling took place in 1986 under the name "The Singleton", which was abandoned in 2001 for the Auchroisk 10 Year Old "Flora & Fauna".
