Dailuaine 16 year old
Flora & Fauna
Perhaps the densest and most robust of the 26 whiskies in the series, the 16-year-old Dailuaine immediately impresses with its body and density. Highly influenced by aging in Sherry casks, it unfolds notes of brown caramel, licorice, and candied fruits complemented by spices and imposing woody undertones. A pure digestif whisky, to be enjoyed in a club chair, possibly accompanied by a cigar (or why not, an aged English blue cheese!).
A must-have for Scotch whisky connoisseurs, the so-called "Flora & Fauna" range is little known to the general public. Launched in the 1990s by United Distillers & Vintners, this series was originally intended to showcase distilleries that did not bottle under their own name. There were also non-reduced versions until the 2000s. The complete collection comprises 26 references, released over time, some of which are now discontinued and have become true collectors' items. The paternity of the name "Flora & Fauna" in reference to the animals and plants depicted on the various labels is attributed to the whisky writer and critic Michael Jackson.

The Dailuaine distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie. The first official bottling of Dailuaine is a 16 Year Old in the "Flora & Fauna" series, followed by a 22 Year Old Cask Strength in the "Rare Malts" series. The distillery uses rapid distillation, long fermentation and reduced copper contact to obtain a powerful "new make", marked by meaty notes, the secret of the longevity of the great Speyside malts.
