Project 1927

James Eadie, New Make Spirit Pack 7 x 10 cl

What if the secrets of Scotland’s whisky past could inspire the elixirs of tomorrow?

James Eadie’s Project 1927 was born of this singular ambition: to reinterpret the forgotten distillation techniques of the 1920s through the eyes, and hands, of Scotland’s most inquisitive modern-day distillers.

The result of an unprecedented collaboration between six independent distilleries (Ardnamurchan, Dornoch, Holyrood, InchDairnie, Lochlea, and a secret farm distillery based in Fife), this box set brings together seven 10cl bottles: one experimental spirit from each distillery, plus a unique blend of all six. Each unaged spirit is the product of meticulous, creative work inspired by old production methods described in The Distillation of Whisky: Notes and Observations 1927–1931, a technical manuscript reissued by Rupert Patrick, great-great-grandson of James Eadie and current CEO of the house, in partnership with the British Library.

Rather than simply replicating the past, each distillery reinterpreted historic practices in its own way: cloudy worts, aged or brewer’s yeast, extended fermentations lasting up to 15 days, manual floor malting, slow distillations or modified stills... The result? A remarkable array of spirits, rich in texture, minerality, fruit, or spice – each revealing a forgotten facet of Scotch whisky.

More than just a tribute, this project is a living experiment. It invites reflection on the evolution of regional styles, the role of improvisation in a distiller’s craft, and our contemporary yearning for a return to roots. It has also enabled producers to reconsider their own processes, integrate long-term learnings, and explore the impact of often-overlooked factors: yeast strain, mashing method, or even the precise origin of the barley.

Project 1927 is no ordinary whisky. It is a journey into Scotland’s living spirit laboratory – a manifesto of heritage and boldness. To be savoured slowly, like a rediscovered chapter of history, revealed sip by sip.

The House

The independent bottling house James Eadie stands out for its drastic selection of distillates and ageing, to ensure that the consumer enjoys flawless malts. Behind the brand is a seasoned and passionate entrepreneur, Rupert Patrick, who has worked for many years in the whisky industry, notably at Diageo and Beam Suntory. It is also a family affair, as Rupert is a direct descendant of James Eadie, whose brand he bought while re-launching a famous 19th century blended scotch: Trade Mark X. His thorough work as a historian and selector naturally led him to extend his range, which now includes small batches and single casks from the greatest Scottish distilleries, with particularly accomplished ageing and finishing.
