The Distillery
The Amrut distillery (which means "elixir of life" in Sanskrit) was founded in 1948, the same year the country acquired its independence from the United Kingdom. Using mainly local barley grown in the Lower Himalaya, it marketed the first Indian whisky in 2004. Today, its range has expanded and the distillery, which is noteworthy for its cellar located at an altitude of over 1,000 m, produces several styles of whisky.
