The Distillery

Glenturret is reputed to be the oldest distillery in Scotland, with a distillation history dating back to 1770. At the time, it was known as "The Hosh" (the foot in Gaelic); it kept this name until 1875, when it changed to Glenturret, after a nearby distillery which disappeared in the 1850s. It was hit with full force by the 1920s depression and was dismantled in 1928. The Glenturret distillery came back to life in 1950, if not from its ashes, at least from the old stills of the Tullibardine distillery, which was being rebuilt. With Glenfiddich, it was one of the first distilleries to open its doors to visitors. Its visitor centre welcomed the renowned "Famous Grouse Experience", which delighted many tourists, in 2002, when it was purchased by the Edrington Group. Owned by the Lalique Group since 2018, Glenturret has struggled to establish a long-lasting range. Yet its 10 Year Old is a little known classic. The range was completely revamped in 2020, with a brand new design and four signature styles: Triple Wood, 10 Year Old Peat Smoked, 12 Year Old and 15 Year Old.
