The Glendronach Distillery was founded in 1826 by several farmers, led by the charismatic James Allardice. The distillery started in a rather chaotic way (it burnt down in 1837) and its history was marked by instability. It changed hands many times before becoming the property of the American distillers Brown Forman in 2016. In the 1960s, Glendronach malt reached its production peak under the leadership of William Teacher & Sons as an essential component of their iconic blend. After trying out different styles of maturation, Glendronach is now renowned for its whiskies whose flavour is influenced to a great degree by the ex-sherry casks (Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez).
